as The Deputy Service Chief of Primary Care in Beautiful Kansas
City The following duties are required of the position; they
include, but are not limited to: he Deputy Chief of Primary Care
reports to the Primary Care Service Chief at Kansas City VA Medical
Center. The Primary Care Physician (PCP) is responsible for care
and coordination of care of general medicine patients in an
outpatient area. Provides Primary Care medical care management for
adult patients for acute and chronic medical conditions. Is
responsible for the direct treatment, consultation and/or referral
for patients' medical conditions as appropriate. Management of
patients includes following VA clinical guidelines with
documentation in the electronic medical record. Works within a team
of various health care staff to direct the resources needed to
assist in the management of patients. Must communicate effectively
and professionally both verbally and in writing electronically with
a wide variety of professional and support staff. May supervise
medical students and residents in a Primary Care continuity clinic.
Participates in providing a learning experience for students,
residents, allied health care team members and peers. Must document
all patient visits and interactions in the electronic medical
record timely. Participates in Quality Review activities. Serves on
administrative committee as assigned or request. Attends team
meeting and staffing meeting and provides other administrative
duties as assigned by Chief of Primary Care or Chief of Staff.
Maintains current knowledge and acquires knowledge through
attendance at medical conferences, seminars and personal readings
to continue to develop and improve clinical skills. May participate
in clinical trials (as applicable to their patients) conducted in
the Primary Care clinic. This position will be 20% clinical and 80%

VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System
(FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1)
Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and
3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan How is the
pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their
salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the
employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution
percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary Similar to the
401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the
TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each
year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service.
For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may
contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to
make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.
The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic
contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching
contributions , depending on the amount of the employee
contribution For retired military personnel, these benefits are in
addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension In addition to
FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired
personnel Disability Retirement Employees are vested in a federal
